Day 5 - Aswan
March 11, 2009
We're in Aswan in our cute hotel room!
Mecca is that way
We have a garden room, and we are right on the Nile!
In the market we saw people carrying giant pieces of meat
Back at our hotel - isn't it great?
Matt, our friend Blair, and our hotel pool
View of the Nile from our hotel
Now we're at the unfinished obelisk in Aswan
4000 years ago they cut out this obelisk to take to Luxor...
But then they found a crack in it so they just left it
It's pretty huge. That must have taken forever.
Now we bargained for a boat...
and sailed to Philae Temple!
It's very pretty and right on the Nile
Lots of carvings of gods and pharoahs
Matt in at Philae temple
The goddess Hathor
Going in the inner part of the temple
These people are huge!
Columns are huge too
Matt and hieroglyphics
Walking around the temple perimeter
The outer shrine
It's very pretty and right on the water
This dude lost his skin due to early Christians
Erin and Matt
Last shot, now back to the boat
Bye, Philae temple!
At the Aswan dam
Erin and Lake Nasser, the largest manmade lake in the world
Soviet monument at Aswan dam
Eating kosheri - macaroni, lentils, fried onions, tomato sauce
Basically it's like Egyptian takeout
Yum
View from our hotel
Waiting for Blair to use the internet at the cafe
Lots of feluccas on the Nile
Matt took a quick swim in our hotel pool.
EVERYONE is constantly smoking hookahs.
This guy made fresh sugarcane juice for us.
