Honeymoon, Day 10 Sicily
July 21, 2004
View of Sicily as we drive to Taormina
Sicily
Old church in Taormina
Taormina is basically one long street with lots of expensive stores
And also lots of pretty churches
I love dramatic-looking churches
Erin in Sicily
Taormina's big attraction (besides shopping) is the Greek Theater
It was built by the Greeks in 300 BC and rebuilt by Romans in 200 AD
The theater is high up with a great view of the sea
View of Sicily from the theater
Stage area - yes those are halves of a boob
The acoustics are so great that they still perform plays here
See - rebuilt for the modern audience
Erin with Mt. Etna in behind her (very light colored on the left)
Mt. Etna is Europe's largest active volcano - it's huge!
We ate Italian pizza at this cute restaurant
And then got ice cream!
Matt outside of the stores we can't afford
Along the main street, the side streets were very steep
There's a fountain at the city's main entrance
And this is Messina, the town where we docked
Sun is about to set...
This is the statue that greets you at the port of Messina
