Honeymoon, Day 6
July 17, 2004
So at Mykonos, we took a morning ferry to the island of Delos
Delos is uninhabited and is in complete ruins
Delos was a huge commercial and spiritual center of ancient Greece
Erin with the Temple of Hera in the background
No one was allowed to give birth or die on Delos
A well-preserved temple - people first lived here in 2800 BC
Pirates killed everyone off in 69 BC, and Delos was lost until 1872
Matt next to their advanced, ancient aqueduct system
The old, well-preserved ampitheatre
Pieces of pillars are everywhere; archeologists are repairing them
Matt and his pal Hermes
The famous Terrace of the Lions guards Apollo's birthplace
So apparently Apollo was born right under that tree

View as our ferry is heading back to Mykonos
Mykonos from the water
And here is Mykonos
Definitely not as dramatic as Santorini
Matt in Mykonos Town
Erin with a ridiculously small church
The small churches were quite cool
Mykonos has tons of tiny alleyways; you can wander for hours
I loved the stone roads
Coast of Mykonos
Mykonos is famous for its windmills (and gay population)
Self-portrait with the windmills
Looking back from the hill to the main part of the city
We mimed picture-taking to some random person
Mykonos Town
Sort of how the buildings looked...
You can see how narrow the walkways are
Coast area
Mykonos has a mascot - this wandering pelican named Petros
I was told we would "run into him" but I didn't believe it...
Cool outdoor cafe
