Day 3: Powerscourt, Glendalough, Kilkenny
September 10, 2007
Time to leave Dublin; Matt with our Fiat Panda
First we drove south to Powerscourt Gardens
It's an old mansion with lots of pretty gardens
Erin and the mansion
Yay! We made it out of Dublin with no accidents and it's not raining!
These awesome flowers are everywhere
Better pictures of Powerscourt mansion
There's a random tower on the grounds
And a Japanese garden with waterfalls
Lake and the fountain
Lots of flowers...
...hydrangeas...
...like a gazillion different types of flowers
Next we drove to Glendalough
Glendalough is a ruined monastery in between 2 beautiful lakes
Matt walking around the monastery graveyard
More gravestones and a round tower
Matt in one of the old buildings
Erin in the old church
High crosses
We walked down to the lakes; they had lots of hiking trails
It's so calm and peaceful here
I can see why the monks wanted to live here
We hiked to a waterfall at Glendalough
Self portrait with said waterfall
And an up-close shot
Matt at the ruins of St. Kevin's cell overlooking the lake
An old church on site (and I mean old as in the 6th century)
This won't be the last time you see Erin posing in ruins
Oooh, the sun came out
We made it to our first B&B; Alcantra B&B in Kilkenny
This one's for Delaney. Note the flags in Kilkenny soccer team colors
The lovely town of Kilkenny
Ireland is obsessed with flowers
The Black Abbey, founded in 1225
Kilkenny has an extremely high church-to-person ratio
You can never have too many churches! (Or can you?)
River Nore in Kilkenny
Kilkenny Castle at sunset
The BEST trad music night of our whole trip!
Erin enjoying a Smithwick's; brewed right here in Kilkenny
Lots of random locals got up to sing solos; so fun
