Day 7: Dingle Peninsula
September 14, 2007
We are driving to Dingle town on the Dingle peninsula
This is Inch Beach. It's on the way
We sat here for awhile while I tried to get over the kitten incident
The Dingle peninsula is huge and very scenic
Still driving along on the southern part
Lots of green. We are definitely in Ireland
And now the sun is out - yay!
Other tourists were at this pretty spot too...
OK. This might have been our favorite spot in the whole trip
This is Minard Castle. One-lane sketchy road getting here
All the giant round stones were naturally tossed from storms
It was just so peaceful and beautiful
Close-up. You couldn't climb in it, unfortunately
Green rocks and stream going into the ocean
I told you we liked this place
Trying to get the boat in the distance
Now you can see more of the rocks
Last one! :)
Ok now we're at Dingle Bay; Dingle town is to the right
Harbour at Dingle Bay
Guy selling tons of olives at the street market
I told you dolphins were vicious!!!!!!
The super-fantastic view from our awesome B&B
Our room at Emlagh Lodge
The amazing view from our room
Now we went out driving. We did the Slea Head loop
Along the way there are ancient beehive huts
These are about 1000 years old, and still waterproof
Hi, Matt
They have a whole little city of them
A better shot of a beehive hut
baaaaah
The Dingle peninsula has lots of green cliffs
...and water. Lots of picture-taking opportunities
It's so pretty everywhere
The drive takes forever because you pull over a lot
See the sunbathers?
We had the best weather too
Don't fall, Matt
I'm running out of scenery captions
Matt and more green cliffs
We're pretty high up
The ramp is for boats going to the Blasket Islands
You can see the Blasket Islands in the distance
Now we've driven around the tip of the peninsula
These flowers are EVERYWHERE
Here's an example
Gallarus Oratory. This thing is about 1500 years old
And waterproof, and these didn't use any mortar
From inside the Gallarus Oratory
Back to the scenic cliffs
Random town (I use the word town loosely)
Almost done with the drive
baaahhh again
Here's our B&B. It faces the harbour. Looks like a postcard
